Growing the Capabilities of a Memphis Institution

Methodist University Hospital (MUH), originally built in 1918, is the largest hospital in the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) system. Over its 102-year history, the hospital has undergone several renovations, expansions, and retrofits, which have scattered its various departments and services across its six-block campus. To consolidate the hospital's services, the Shorb Tower expansion houses advanced comprehensive care for transplant, cardiology, blood and marrow transplant, and oncology services, helping increase physician and staff efficiency along with convenience for the patient.

The Shorb Tower at MUH is the most advanced patient and family-centered state-of-the-art specialized care facility in the region. The expansion's operating rooms support complex surgeries and feature video integration for educational purposes. The expansion also allowed the hospital to increase ICU capacity by 36% and operating room capacity by 20%. The project is LEED Silver certified.
