Major Expansion at Maine Medical Center in Portland

This major expansion includes a series of projects over the course of seven years on an active hospital campus. The first phase entailed a two-story, 60,000 sq. ft. vertical overbuild to the existing East Tower, now called the Coulombe Family Tower, installation of the new Sisters Heliport, a three-story vertical expansion to the existing visitor parking garage, and major upgrades to the Central Utility Plant. The overbuild created 64 new patient beds, a family consultation room, patient care work stations, a new helipad with dual landing zones, a vertical expansion to the existing parking garage (adding 225 new parking spaces), and an expansion to the existing chilled water plant to provide the required additional capacity to support the expansion.

The second phase included the dismantling and removal of the existing employee parking structure and construction of the new 270,000 sq. ft. Malone Family Tower hospital building. The new facility hosts operating rooms and procedure rooms, and is complimented by accompanying procedure preparation and recovery beds.
